Is taking a 5th year to recruit IB fine?
I go to a target school and don't mind paying an extra semester/year's worth of tuition.
I couldn't get into MBB, don't care about the other consulting firms. I never recruited for IB, but I would rather be at any BB or Middle Market firm over a T2 consulting firm. I still have full-time MBB recruiting, but I'm concerned about what might happen if I get rejected during this process as well. I don't plan to stay in consulting for that long, so transitioning from a T2/B4 to MBB would take too long.
I'm already scheduling coffee chats with alumni at BBs, I'm confident I can get roughly 5 chats per firm that I'm targeting before applications come out.
I've removed my graduation year on LinkedIn. Would analysts need to know that I'm a junior in credit standings, or can I just act like I'm class of 2028? Is there any kind of disadvantage?
Thanks
btw I already have a T2 consulting offer
No big deal, seems you understand the cost and have a plan to do so. Problems arrive when people delay without a plan and understanding what went wrong the first time.
Yeah should have mentioned that the cost is extremely low for me, and for the first two years of college, I didn't really pay anything, so I'm in a lucky spot financially.
It always depends on the reasons for delaying. Given that you haven’t done recruiting yet and are doing it with success already in consulting, it should be a good idea. Problems come when people rerecruit simply because they didn’t place and rarely change habits for another cycle.
I delayed grad and rerecruited for context and it worked out well.
Good luck!
Thank you!
Worked for me for my previous SA stint - would highly recommend given you have a proper plan on how to approach recruiting proactively going forward.
Also try to formulate a good reason for why you re-recruited. It worked through me but I had originally planned to study abroad and took on another minor late in my degree that I needed to take classes for.
Some people will notice what you’re trying to do but as long as you have a decent explanation I’d say it’s worth it if you’re truly dead set on this path.
Thanks for your insight! I'm considering adding a CS minor and taking an extra semester, so that could work out for me.

Do they need to know that i'm a junior in credit standings?
I just had to show I had remaining credits when I started my internship not sure if that’s company dependent or not but you should be fine
Most of the internships list dec-june grad dates for juniors so I think if you have a full extra semester you should be golden
Thanks!
