Is the GS Virtual Insight Series at all useful?

Is the GS Virtual Insight Series at all useful? asking because I'm in it and I'd be surprised if there are enough spots in any given IB recruiting year to recruit the amount of participants. I knew going into it that it's not super prestigious but I assumed it at least wouldn't be a waste of time.

if anyone who has done it before can point out any benefits you got from it, I would love to hear about it

Based on previous WSO threads, the Goldman Sachs Virtual Insight Series has mixed reviews. Here are some insights:

Benefits:

  1. Interview Preparation:

    • The series provides practice HireVue sessions and recruiting webinars with HR, which can be beneficial for interview preparation.
    • It helps in understanding how to prepare for interviews for internships and other roles at Goldman Sachs.
  2. Networking Opportunities:

    • There are informational calls with analysts, associates, and VPs across different divisions. While these are more conference-style with Q&A, they can still offer valuable networking opportunities.
    • The program aims to develop relationship-building skills over networking, which can be useful in your career.
  3. Skill Building:

    • The series includes resume and interview office hours, which can help improve your professional skills.
    • It offers exposure to multiple career paths and helps build the skills needed to successfully interview at Goldman Sachs.
  4. Flexibility:

    • Most events are either after hours or can be done on your own time, and everything is optional, making it flexible to fit into your schedule.

Criticisms:

  1. Overhyped:

    • Some participants feel that the program is overhyped and does not offer significant advantages in GS recruiting.
    • It is often seen as a way for Goldman Sachs to create buzz without providing substantial benefits.
  2. Limited Impact on Recruiting:

    • There is skepticism about the program's impact on actual recruiting, with some participants feeling it offers no real advantages.
    • The accelerated recruiting timeline is not guaranteed and may not be as beneficial as expected.
  3. General Content:

    • The content is quite general and may not provide deep insights or transformative experiences as some might expect.

Conclusion:

While the GS Virtual Insight Series can offer some benefits in terms of interview preparation, networking, and skill-building, it may not be as impactful or prestigious as some might hope. It is important to manage expectations and use the program as a supplementary resource rather than relying on it as a primary means of securing a position at Goldman Sachs.

Makes sense. So I guess the only possible tangible benefit (which might not even do anything) for someone who is already familiar with IB recruiting is fitting the words "Goldman Sachs Virtual Insights Series" under awards on the resume when applying to GS?
