It will be interesting to see how Americans cope over these next 4 years. Everyone from white collar professionals to the lowest warehouse labourers and janitors will face undercutting and dispossession.

There’s a disappointed American name and face behind every H1-B visa we let in inside banking. By trapping H1-B visas banks are given a greater ability to mistreat juniors.

After Musk took over twitter only those on H1-Bs were stuck working there under subpar conditions, look at the pictures. Everyone who could leave did leave. H1-B visa program hurts more than helps.

Wrong. America was built on wonderful people who have immigrated here for the past few centuries. We should be taking in skilled talents from all across the world to make our economy and overall welfare of the country stronger. Elon himself was on an H1B at one point. More than 50% of unicorns in the states have been founded by immigrants. Merit shall prevail!!!

This bs needs to stop somewhere. The disappointed name and face of the american who didnt get the job is probably unqualified and outskilled by a good margin right?
And twitter fired them. Not many left voluntarily.
I personally think young ones in banking overlook the importance of h1b simply because they dont get the chance to witness the difference in skills levels. From my experience those who were able to crack themselves out of their shells dont have such strong opinion against it

Hiring an H1B worker literally costs the company more in additional filing, processing, and legal fees. It is not a cheap process and is a big part of why many banks don't sponsor visas. If a company chooses to incur those costs for entry-level roles, then it's because those employees are worth it to them. UBS does not have some odd agenda to take American jobs. Not getting an offer and blaming DEI is very different from not getting an offer and blaming H1B workers. Being DEI makes it easier to get an offer, but being international genuinely makes it harder.

The logical argument to this is that employees are forced to stick around. In IB, banks understand and acknowledge the natural turnover associated with hiring analysts. In fact, they prefer it because they make no effort to retain analysts and grind them to the bone. They really don't care about retention, so the point in the context of IB analysts is moot.

No payroll tax on H1-Bs, can give lower bonuses and they are stuck. Net cheaper

As far as I know, the payroll withholding rule is no longer valid as of October. Agreed on bonuses, but see the comment above about making them "stuck". Banks don't want you to be stuck, it breaks the way IB work culture functions. They want you working like a dog because you see a light at the end of the tunnel.
