Joining IB Late
What was the age of the oldest person you know who started a career in front office investment banking? Follow up, is that person still in the industry? I can't imagine this role would be that senior unless your parent is in the C-Suite or you bring in the biggest deal, so let's just look at the late-start interns, analysts, and associates.
Late forties, they had a successful exit and a strong Rolodex. They’re an MD in coverage at a lower tier middle market. It’s not super uncommon in MM/Regional Boutiques to be a former senior exec or operator and to transition into a senior role.
i know someone who was a summer analyst in his late thirties. Ended up making VP in 4 years after starting as an FT analyst. Absolute legend
Top BB - there’s a guy who recently joined as an MD in TMT, seems to be ~40
Just started this summer as a FT analyst at 29.
