joining the company of my old IBD boss (who i hated)

I'm an IBD Associate that just accepted an offer to join a Corp Dev position and my previous IBD boss also works there (but in a different team, he's in the Sales & Business Development team).

The company isn't huge it's a mid sized business and Corp Dev and Business Development often overlap so we will likely end up working together occasionally and walk past each other.

Now here comes the problem.. this boss was BRUTAL to both work with and under. He was the type of boss that would give you soooo much unnecessary work that adds no value and is completely pointless and make you work till 3am everyday and destroy your weekends. He even used to say "if Analysts have weekend plans then they're not working hard enough". He would walk past our desk on a Friday night and give us more work to do by Monday morning to ensure we worked all weekend.

Now I'm not sure what to do, do I:

A) keep my head down and pretend I forgot he works there to avoid interacting with him for as long as possible then just "bump" into him at work

B) reach out and say hello to let him know I'm joining

I know if I don't reach out and we bump into each other then he will definitely be offended I didn't reach out to him because he knows I know he works there. But if I do reach out to him that means he might expect he can just start asking me for favours/work and making my life hell again early on.

But I guess he can't give me work to do given we will be in (slightly) separate teams? I want to try start fresh with him and have a good relationship with him in this new role, so not sure how I can approach this.
