JP Morgan Commercial Banking Superday

Hi everyone,

I have a super day with JP Morgan's commercial bank for the 2018 Summer Analyst position with their MM Banking and Specialized Industries Group. I initially wanted CIB, but I guess they want me to interview with MMSI instead. I'm not quite sure as to what the position entails. From the research i've done so far, it seems like this group gives out loans to middle market businesses. So I feel like the position is focused on risk and financing solutions? The super day is for their NYC office. The super day is October 27th. This is also my first super day ever, so any insights would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks!

I’ve had some experience interacting and interviewing with JPM MM so I’ll share the insight I have. JPM has 4 categories of commercial banking -business banking(Revenue Under 20M) -middle market(20-500M) -corporate client(500M-2B) -corporate(2B+)

At the MM level you’ll be helping existing clients and pitching to win new clients and provide financial solutions like: -treasury management -financing -hedging -other financial products and services

The interview process from a technical standpoint mainly centers around questions about credit worthiness or how other products the bank offers can benefit the client. Day to day of that role is -researching clients and prospects -creating presentation materials for pitches -financial modeling

Currently working at JPM, can share some light on this as well.

Main differences between CCB and MM is that CCB works with clients over $500M in revenue, can be even above that $2B threshold if their retained clients have grown throughout the relationship. Also CCB earns the same base as CIB/IBD and have bonuses structured the same as CIB since they go through IBD training for SA and FT and must obtain their Series 63 and 79 licenses, whereas in MM they don't go through IBD training and don't require the licenses, thus gets paid less than CCB. (MM = ~$62k base vs. CCB = $85k base) (First year analyst and Summer analyst pro rated)

I believe MM training is in Dallas, and CCB/CIB/IBD training is in NYC.

Other than that @serialfinance" hit it on the nail with the explanation

Thanks for this insight! Could you also possibly comment on how global corporate banking different than CCB. Is it common to lateral from CCB to Corporate banking at JPM?
