seems as if you dont need help w/ the recruiting cycle if you managed to get a nepo internship...

Why would it not help? At the end of the day it is more work experience on your CV than someone who did not get an internship in their 1st year of uni. It would look the same on your CV as someone who had cold emailed the bank and gotten an informal internship.

I guess I was wondering if the brand name helps more than just a random boutique. Also, I know sophomores who did BofA sophomore internship and then leveraged it for better offer junior year, so can’t I leverage for a BB next year, and then top top bank jr year??

Yes 100%. Try and get some good transaction/modeling experience that you can put on your resume and talk about in during interviews. I was in a similar position and it really helped me standout (no other sophomore has transactions they've worked on that they can confidently speak about). Pro tip: take notes during your internship on the deal you work. This will come in handy as you prep for interviews next year and refine your resume.
