"Keep In touch" from MD, no internship offer

Did a super-day and interview wen't well, but no internship offer. After sending my thank you emails out, though, the MD who interviewed me actually responded. He told me to keep in touch and to let him know how he could be helpful. I've interviewed at 2 different places, and I've never received a thank you email reply from anyone, so I'm not exactly sure if it means anything. Do you consider this a good sign for future networking, or should I just take what he said as just being courteous, since I wasn't extended an offer? I'm possibly overthinking this, but I'm a CC student , so I'm under the impression he's alluding to contacting him again once I transfer to a 4 year.

I would think it is a good thing and you should try and maintain and leverage that relationship moving forward for next year whether for SA or FT recruiting.
The way I would maintain relationships is by reaching out when you have meaningful stuff to talk about such as letting him know where you end up interning at or after the internship and what not. Also, keep in mind MD's are extremely busy so if he does not respond just send out other follow-ups.

My guess is that you were close to receiving an internship offer. Nepotism, particularly with respect to where one studied, typically breaks a tie.

This senior banker is probably interested in your candidacy for full-time positions should one of their summer analysts/associates not shake out. I would e-mail this senior banker at the beginning of the summer to ensure that the relationship is top-of-mind for the senior banker heading into the summer. I would then reach back out towards mid-August reaffirming your interest in opportunities with their platform.
