Knot feeling in stomach from M&A deal
Hello all, lateral analyst (CB>IB).
One of the biggest acquisitions of 2023 closed last month, and I was an analyst at one of the banks on the deal. Was reading the news and came across a headline that the buyer (our client) has laid off nearly 3000 employees from the target, and the CEO is ordering the targets employees back to the office. I kind of got a knot feeling in my stomach, a little bit of guilt. Is this feeling normal? Does it get easier? I know it’s literally not my fault but can’t help feel this way
For what it's worth, my dad was laid off as part of a merger during the '08 / '09 years when I was younger and it was the best thing to happen to our family after the initial struggle. He found a new job that was a much better fit and eventually paid more due to greater upward mobility. The hardworking and talented employees affected by the layoffs will bounce back stronger.

+1 to this. This is the solace I have as an MBA 2nd year looking for a job rn in today's weird white collar recession. The down economy of 2020 led to a significant change in one of my siblings' careers that eventually led to almost 2x income potential 3 years later.
What is this “inb4” shit. You sound like a narc
Congrats on Broadcom merger. That’s a huge one
Broadcom is ruthless
I get knot feelings in stomach about big M&A deals from PTSD about how brutal the slide deck, model build, weekend hours were. never once have I worried about the effects (I have simply too much PTSD from the deal team experience).
Shit happens
