I literally cannot believe this news is real. Just goes to show that anything can happen and that we should all be grateful for the time that we have on this planet

I was impressed not only with his career but how he was setting himself up after the NBA. Owning sports teams overseas, being a coach for his daughters team and being a VC as well.

Terrible weather conditions & something was faulty in the chopper (reports of the engine sputtering prior to the crash).

Saw a tweet earlier showing that the helicopter was on a holding pattern in the beginning of the flight because of weather. You can tell from early pictures of the crash that there was almost zero visibility due to fog (there are two sets of pics floating around on twitter, one of them is earlier in the day and there is like no visibility).

He alone is what kept me going in banking. I did my internship after he tore his ACL; I was a horrible intern, I sucked. His work ethic to return to playing after recovery made me bust my ass to get another job and continue this career.

Going to be a lot of purple and gold on the subway Monday.

Love the Laker Nation; I’ll see you at the NBA Finals this year.

Kobe was a fucking legend. No matter who you rooted for you have to respect his game. Kobe will be missed and I feel lucky I got to see some of his great years growing up!

Came up on my news app and i almost dropped my drink I had to read it again. I was in shock.

I never played basketball or was a big fan of it tbh but when ever me and my buddies would fuck around and try to throw something out in the trash from a distance or lob an item to each other we'd yell "Kobe"

I don't think that legend/tradition will ever die now.

RIP Kobe

Was golfing when the news dropped. You could almost feel everyone on the entire course freeze and look at their phones for a 30 seconds. It was chilling.

Coming from someone who has lost immediate family members it's devastating. Someone lost a son (odd relationship or not), son-in-law, husband, daughter, granddaughter etc. I know he and his wife just had a child recently. His wife having to deal the natural postpartum paired with this is pain I couldn't even begin to imagine. Ppl pass every day but this was such a stark reminder (due to his popularity/visibility) of the grim reality that our plans aren't ours and that anything can happen at any moment. We make vacation plans for 8 months away from now but who knows. Shit man. I need to live in the moment more and appreciate it instead of stressing about small insignificant shit.

Be blessed yall.

This one hurt. A lot.

My freshman year of high school was awful and I was really heading down a not great path for my life. That year ended with Kobe and the Lakers winning the 2010 NBA title and man seeing Kobe complete the second act of his career like that really caused me to kick myself in the ass. If my favorite athlete could turn it around and get back on top, why not me? I instilled that Mamba Mentality from there on out. I turned the corner and finished high school strong and that work ethic and focus carried out through college and into my working life. Fuck this sucks. RIP Kobe

Being from So-Cal this hurt my whole community so much more than you would think an athlete passing would. Everyone back home was depressed all day yesterday and are still somber today.

You would see Kobe around Orange County area, his family had a favorite bakery and nail salon. He was always willing to take a photo or say whats up while walking around. Cool dude.

Gotta keep the Mamba Mentality up, now more than ever. Legend.
