Lateral from strong MM to EB/BB

After graduating this year, I am going to start as an analyst at a strong MM (think Jeffries/Macquarie/RBC) in NYC. How difficult will it be to move to an EB/BB? I've seen that other analysts at my future firm have done it. When should I start applying and will school be a major factor? I went to a semi-target (Emory)
