Lateral recruit next year or participate in on-cycle for FT 2025?

Currently accepted a FT 2024 IB offer at a boutique, but the firm is very small and I would want to lateral to an MM or BB in the future. For the lateral move, I was considering two options:

  1. After a year of experience, I’ll lateral as normal in 2025 to another firm

  2. I will participate in FT 2025 recruiting in August 2024 as an experienced new grad, and if I get an offer, I’ll join the new firm in June/July 2025 with the on-cycle class

For both options, I would still work at my current firm for a year, and restart as an Analyst 1 at the new firm.

Was curious which option would be better, or if option 2 is possible and if there were any caveats, thanks!

OP here, got it thanks for the help! Was just asking bc I see job postings where they ask for 0-3 years of experience so I assumed experienced hires could apply for on-cycle FT positions

Same situation here but even worse. I need to hit the H1-b too lol to lateral and do on cycle. Wondering what people who don’t hit it do? I know MFs will sponsor but have been told that it will be used against me when comparing to other candidates.
