Agreed that if you're moving from something like Citi to JPM, lateralling makes sense only if you're planning on recruiting for exits and leaving within a year or two at the new platform. Otherwise if you have a solid relationship with your current team and sustainable wlb/culture, going to a new environment can be pretty risky.

 Lateralling to a much better bank would be worth it, but here the bump in brand name is probably offset by the adjustments to new environment and having to build trust with your new team, at least in the short term

 

Sophomore here. Currently incoming at a regional boutique, but would like to lateral to EB/BB for FT recruiting or during analyst stint. Curious if this is common if exits are the main goal? You seem like you would be knowledgeable

 

Yeah I think I got blinded by the idea of jumping to a better platform from where I was because I also shaved off a year when I came over. I think I was on maniac episode when I did that when I was fine where I was
