When do you decide to lateral? For example, I'm deciding between lateraling to William Blair from Barclays (both in tech). Thoughts?

Why are you thinking of moving? Is it firm related or do you want to switch to MM?
Potentially compensation, also I feel like I would get more M&A experience, but concerned it will potentially limit me from ever going to BB again. Right now getting good experience on IPOs but only joint actives; hard to see us getting a ton of left leads anytime soon.
Nothing wrong with going to a reputable MM if you want to focus on primarily sell-side M&A and general advisory work. Some want to move to a place like Barclays cuz of the brand name/high profile stuff or the other way around with MMs that have cash bonuses.

No problem! I’m in the same boat except I’m at a small boutique but founder and MDs are notable in the space they are in but wondering whether being at a bigger shop would be much more stable and perhaps have more longevity.
Culture should be #1. Shitty co-workers/bosses can complete kill all of the other factors.
Unrelated question- is Barclays tech group's culture as bad as this site makes it sound? Specifically looking at nyc office
