Lazard 2026 Exits

Currently incoming AN1 at Lazard NYC and was just wondering what the exits are looking like, specifically for MFs and top UMMs.

Plan to be in one of their better groups (think Industrials/Healthcare), but was just wondering how they stack up relative to the Moelis PJT Evercores of the world.

Congratulations on your incoming role at Lazard NYC! Lazard is a highly regarded firm, and being in one of their stronger groups like Industrials or Healthcare will certainly position you well for exits. Here's a breakdown of how Lazard stacks up for exits, particularly to MFs (Mega Funds) and top UMMs (Upper Middle Market funds):

Lazard's Exit Opportunities

  1. Mega Funds (MFs):

    • Lazard has a strong reputation for placing analysts into MFs, especially from its top-performing groups like Industrials, Healthcare, and Restructuring.
    • While Lazard may not have the same level of MF placement as Moelis, PJT, or Evercore, it is still highly competitive and respected in the industry.
    • Analysts from Lazard often land roles at top-tier private equity firms, including Blackstone, KKR, Carlyle, and Apollo, though the frequency may be slightly lower compared to the aforementioned firms.
  2. Upper Middle Market (UMM) Funds:

    • Lazard analysts have excellent placement into UMM funds, which often value the firm's strong deal flow and rigorous training.
    • UMM funds like Audax, GTCR, and Thoma Bravo are common destinations for Lazard alumni.
  3. Comparison to Moelis, PJT, and Evercore:

    • Moelis: Known for its strong MF placement, particularly in Restructuring. Lazard's Restructuring group is also strong, but Moelis may have a slight edge in this niche.
    • PJT: PJT's Restructuring and Strategic Advisory groups are top-tier for MF exits, often placing analysts at the very top funds. Lazard is competitive but may not have the same level of MF dominance.
    • Evercore: Evercore is often considered one of the best for MF exits due to its strong deal flow and reputation. Lazard is slightly behind Evercore in terms of MF placement but still holds its own.
  4. Group-Specific Strengths:

    • Being in a strong group like Industrials or Healthcare at Lazard will significantly enhance your exit opportunities. These groups are known for their high deal volume and exposure to complex transactions, which are highly valued by private equity firms.
  5. Networking and Alumni Base:

    • Lazard has a robust alumni network, which can be a valuable resource when recruiting for MFs and UMMs. Leveraging this network will be key to maximizing your exit opportunities.

Key Takeaways:

  • Lazard is a strong platform for exits, particularly to UMMs and select MFs.
  • While it may not have the same MF placement rate as Moelis, PJT, or Evercore, it is still highly competitive, especially if you're in a top group.
  • Focus on excelling in your group, building relationships, and leveraging the alumni network to position yourself for the best opportunities.

Good luck in your role at Lazard! You're in a great position to achieve your career goals.

Don't understand why everyone puts PJT M&A on such a pedestal on this site

RX has at 3 least MF placements that i know about, a couple top distressed exits and some great UMM placements too

can someone also shine light on the diff groups, like what are the top groups at laz (considering deal flow and exits) apart from rx? and what are intern hours like?

Intern hrs generalist are super reasonable. Depends on group and staffings before but you’ll never push above 80 hrs. I’d say 60-65 on avg

Older sibling interned this summer - mentioned there were some strong exits across both M&A and RX in NYC including KKR (don’t know which sector group), Advent, Bain NAPE, Apollo Flagship among others. Have a vague memory of maybe there being someone going to H&F but not 100% sure so don’t quote me on it.

Per LinkedIn, last year’s outgoing analyst class had exits to strong places like SL, KKR, GA, FP, Carlyle, GIP, Berkshire among others
