Lazard China Ltd(M&A advisory) in Beijing or UBSS IBD in Beijing

hey guys, I am a chinese graduate from U of T-bcom-finance in canada this year in June and I am really looking for help on the decision of choosing Lazard (analyst)or UBS(ibd analyst) in Beijing, China. (i have a good chance of getting offers from both)

in 2005, Lazard opened its new office in beijing and has been focusing on M&A advisory service for foreign companies who are seeking investment opportunities in mainland China and for those local big companies who are looking for investment opportuniteis in foreign countries. Lazard is not well advertised in China and currently it has a group of 10-20 ppl in the Beijing office. But I am not much informed about the deal flow of Lazard China Ltd and has no clue about its pay for full time employee, though the office is in the highest building in Beijing, world trade tower.

For UBSS, it is pretty good and it is the place where I interned. UBSS is highly localized and ppl speak mandarin exclusively, and UBSS works only on local big companies becuase it is one of the few authorized for A-share underwriting. During my internship at UBSS, you could be extremely busy on projects and pull thru all night, but other times you are pretty stuffed by making pitch book. The IBD group has around 70 ppl and the work hour isn't that bad. normally you can expect to work from 9:00a.m to 9:00p.m

Personally, I really want to have a chance to go to top mba program in the U.S after lets say 3 years. So, here I sincerely want to hear your voice, and feel free to comment! btw, pls bear with my english. Im trying my best~

SerendipityWait, you haven't gotten their offers yet but you "have a good chance of getting offers from both"? That's like saying McKinsey is maybe giving me an offer before I apply.

U of T Rotman? what a joke.

And I heard UBS is extremely prestigious, however they aren't doing as hot as BAML right now. ;)

I just finished my internship at UBS and I've received a return offer but havn't signed yet, and you know return offer could be gone if economy is really bad. Lazard has invited me to do a 3 month probation before signing the full time contract with me. So, I think what I said about having good chance of getting offers from both is really what happening to me.

and btw, wut is wrong with Rotman? I respect the school and I respect people.
I wish your age is not as indicated in your profile. If it was true, it is a real joke.

UBS is a bit of a joke in the States these days, but they've been killing it in China from what I heard when I was there. Lazard was invisible in China when I was working in Beijing.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of what office building the company works in. The commercial real estate market in Beijing and CBD is in the shitter.

You might want to consider that UBS, along with most of the major banks, is out west on Jinrong Jie. That will make your commute a fair amount longer since you'd have to be crazy to live anywhere other than CBD/Sanlitun.
