LinkedIn acceptance post?
Is it too cringy? Do I thank the HR person that was in contact with me or do I thank the analyst I reached out to who interviewed me? Or do I thank the head of the analyst class based in a different city (he’s a vp)?
I hate how some of these sound like sports offers, or worse… Oscar acceptance speeches
Don't...
No
Ya don't this posting shit getting so annoying. Yes it's cringey and demonstrating the need to clout chase by sharing how "thrilled and humbled" you are is unnecessary.
I would just update the job status with no caption or details. Pretty cringe to simp for a company and give thanks to people who have no issue replacing you
dont do it lol. cringy and youll look back and wonder why you even did that.
I did it once a few years back. I thoroughly regret it. I leave it up to remind myself to never do it again.
If you do anything at all, just thank your point of contact and interviewers in a short personal email. When you update your LinkedIn, don’t make a post just update the role and maybe let it notify your network. Those acceptance posts are so gauche…
I personally don't make posts and my close friends don't either, but I don't knock people who do. I feel that it's one of those things on WSO that people find it cringy because someone else found it to be annoying and it became the social norm. I don't exactly see how it's cringy if it's a true accomplishment. Excelling at something in your field should be celebrated. When GS and JPM boast about how difficult getting a internship there is and a non target overcomes the odds and breaks into the field, I don't see how anyone would lose sleep over it. There's a fine line though. Your GS insight series doesn't need to be posted about but if you land a top offer, beat the odds, and accomplished a goal, it's something to be proud about. Edit: I also think that social norm was started and perpetuated by people that aren't from the social media era. Social media is all about flexing and LinkedIn is, in fact, social media. Put it this way; if your family is full of educated people with PhDs, MDs, JDs, etc. it's not an accomplishment if you graduate from HS, that's the actual bare minimum and it's cringy. If you came from a broken family, no family history of advanced education, low income, surrounded by drugs and gangs, graduating HS and going to college is a true accomplishment.
I disagree that the point of LinkedIn (or at least the intended point) was to flex. The platform was pretty useful for networking/ applying to jobs and at one point the feed was career-related topics (mine used to be trends in finance, crypto, etc.) Now the site has truly devolved into FB 2.0 and is worthless outside of the job board. For networking it is better to cold email than try to connect through LinkedIn as many professionals are fed up with the platform and use it only like a online resume that they update every few years.
Just do it, it’s a flex. My post went viral and was able to make more connections from it. Put recruiters on notice and gave me more credibility.
“Going viral” for an acceptance post is not a good thing, FYI. Scammy / volume-based HHs might shoot you connection requests, but you’ll look like a clown to HHs for (and employees of) funds, etc, you actually want to work at.
Yes don't do it
While I can empathize with your excitement, don't do this. Save the post for your Facebook, if you even still use that.
Don't do it. People who care will send you a congratulations when you update your LinkedIn when you actually start the role.
