Haven’t heard much about Liontree lately. It looks like it’s turned into a merchant bank with Gryphon being the PE/Venture Arm. Any updates?

Fell off hard
Heard they laid off half their ANL/ASOs in the fall
That’s really interesting cause I heard they were hiring laterals towards the end of last year
They went from $130bn transactions in 2021 to less than $20bn in 2022. That says it all, probably not in a great spot right now.
Is that just more a function of having worked on the warner bros discovery merger the year prior which was most of that $140bn? Wonder what the stat is on just # of deals vs transaction volume.
Does seem like they've pivoted to focus more on investing vs advisory. Can confirm through a friend that they've had layoffs last year in all their offices, compensation down as well, lower than other EBs but high end of BB pay.
Agreed that they've been lackluster as of late (at least compared to competitors). Still a decent shop but at this rate, could see them reaching Greenhill levels
