Long live the tie ... or not
I’ll be starting a FT analyst role at a BB in London this summer. I don’t come from a privileged background (no watch/any flashy accessories), but I’ve built up a small collection of ties over time. I’ve found the ones from Hermès/Ferragamo to be especially high quality.
Wearing a tie has always felt natural to me in previous roles. For me, it’s a sign of respect and professionalism, and I think it adds a refined touch to a suit. That said, I’ve heard that wearing ties is becoming less common among junior bankers, especially in recent analyst classes.
Is that true? How is it generally perceived these days (from analysts, associates and VP especially)?
Bump, just started at a firm and everyone is business casual. Wondering the same thing.
Wear the tie on day 1 and then read the room on whether it would be appropriate to continue to do so
If your neck is thick enough, you're allowed to wear no tie. But if you're a pencilneck, you better stick to the dress code.
