Based on the most helpful WSO content, last-minute cancellations or reschedules for coffee chats and meetings are not uncommon in the world of investment banking. The industry is notorious for its high workloads, overcrowded calendars, and ad-hoc priorities. Analysts, associates, and even MDs often face unexpected demands, which can lead to rescheduling.

Here are a few insights and tips to navigate this:

  1. High Workload and Priorities: Investment banking professionals often deal with last-minute client requests, urgent deal updates, or internal deadlines. This can disrupt even well-planned schedules.

  2. Timing Matters: Avoid scheduling coffee chats or meetings on Fridays or late in the week. As highlighted in WSO threads, early-week meetings (Monday or Tuesday) are generally better since professionals are less likely to be overwhelmed by the week's demands.

  3. Be Flexible and Proactive: Communicate early and confirm the meeting a day or two in advance. If a reschedule happens, try to lock in a new time immediately to avoid further delays.

  4. Don't Take It Personally: Reschedules are often a reflection of the industry’s fast-paced nature, not a lack of interest in connecting with you.

  5. Stay Prepared: Always have your questions and talking points ready, so you're not caught off guard when the meeting does happen.

If this pattern continues, consider asking if there’s a better time or day for them to meet. It shows understanding and adaptability, which are valued traits in the industry.

Because they get paid for finishing work not chatting you. Assuming your a freshmen when you recruit please don't off as entitled to chatting with them. It will seriously piss them off.

if your interviewer rescheduled last minute or no showed and then rescheduled afterwards, would that piss you off even slightly? Of course, but you are still grateful for the opportunity, doesn’t mean you can’t be slightly annoyed even if you understand it wasn’t their fault and they’re doing you a favor

Thank you, sir, may I have another? - Animal House for you young ones.  That should be your mentality.

That said, you're approach to this is all wrong. These are people working ridiculously hard schedules, and new recruits are out of their frame. The don't get paid to hire new talent, although SOME are willing to take time out of their schedules to engage. Pushing them/not liking them for a favor is similar to a homeless person saying no, I won't take $10, give me a $20. You respond on their schedule, which changes frequently. College students have no such demands; your schedule is fungible for other candidates that get this.

Separately, if you can't accept this, you will hate IB
