Low GPA at a target(Sophomore)
I am pretty sure I will have a ~3.0 this semester. There are two classes that I might get a C+ in (this is what the class curves to) and two classes that I will pull an A- in. My cumulative GPA will drop to a 3.4. Do you think that this will put me out of internship possibilities? I go to a top 10 target and am a minority(hate pulling this card)
no, you're fine.
Just work harder in school but you should be fine with flat gpa from a target
No. Depends on what else is on your resume, most importantly your work experience. Try and line up a meaningful financial internship for this summer since you're a sophomore. Networking as a sophomore can go a long way in impressing people, since not every sophomore is looking outside the box for positions. Since you're at a target, you have a good chance of impressing people with the name of your school as well. Make sure you've got some solid involvement in ECs and throw some of your related coursework as well.
Alos, you're a soph, you have two more semesters to raise your GPA before SA recruiting.
I know a 3.4 from a non-target that landed a BB IBD offer in NY. He was a baller though...don't take that as consolation.
Quick question? What was the point of saying this?
I was just so excited that finals were over that I wanted to share it with everyone on WSO!
What does "baller" mean in this case?
He drove an '08 Civic if that clears it up.
Thanks a lot guys. Whenever I visit this forum, I always feel outclassed by the crazy 3.7 HYPW studs that seem to have their shit straight. I'm pretty sure that I can pull off better grades next semester.
Another question: Is it fine if I get an internship at a regional boutique this summer? I plan on going back home to Cali and was wondering if working at a Boutique for my sophomore summer would be fine for experience.
It depends on what you do at the boutique and if it is a well known boutique. Btw 3.4 gpa is fine with good experience.
this is actually a question I have. I like studying so was in comfortable GPA territory for recruiting, but how low can you go. The 3.3 target with good leadership and some relevant experience, or who love finance might make it through the screen but those guys (with notable exceptions) always seem to fizzle in first rounds.
When you say that "3.4 GPA is fine with good experience", do you mean for a a top-tier firm -- or just that you can get your foot in the door?
Why is it that most URM programs have cutoffs of 3.5 then? Statistically aren't URMs supposed to be given boosts/advantages? I mean if I can't even meet the cutoff requirement for URM programs, how will I be competitive in the regular pool?
i know kids that went to non-targets that got full time S&T and IB offers with 3.4's and only one previous experience.
The people on this forum sometimes are delusional - dude as you mentioned above you normally feel outclasses - they aren't the norm....trust me
3.4 is fine
