not sure exactly what you mean by "numbers based" M&A questions, but I usually get asked about prior deals. Like what was the EBITDA margin, multiples sold, and other more deal specific details that relates to the numbers. I did have a paper based forecast/LBO question at one place. By that I mean I was given a piece of paper with some basic income stmt info and then fill in the blank. (i.e. calculate debt expense, complete the cash flow stmt, etc.) Honestly a weird experience cuz it was 5 people at a superday sitting in a conference room basically taking a math test.
