Based on the size of the bonus, I don't think they expect you to work more than 30 hours a week.

Coverage:

Industrials tops the list but is also arguably the best group there now, moreso than Infra; expect 80+, with some past SAs topping 100 hours a couple weeks.

TMET crushes SAs too, but more from hardcore ex-LEH guys than dealflow; a lot of pitching, but interesting focuses (satellite, wireless towers, some cleantech, etc). 85-90 average from SAs last summer.

Infra, FIG, and RE are probably next, in descending order, and have beefed up Energy team so expect those hours to rise.

Product groups:

All generally 70ish hours although LevFin dealflow has picked up in the last couple months; probably will be higher and more than ECM.

On the topic of Macquarie:

Does anyone know if the Sydney/Auckland offices have a second summer intern program for Northern Hemisphere students? Their typical "Summer Vacation Program" is like December-February, but has anyone heard of them taking on interns in their winter (our summer)? or do they subjugate all the Americans to NYC?

I ask because the only time I'd ever want to work at Macquarie is if I were in A/NZ, where their presence is stronger.

Nope. No winter interns for Australian IBD. Summer vac program runs over the Australian university summer break (Dec-Feb usually). And you have to have an Australian work permit (usually residency) to do an internship in Australia.

i interviewed with Macquarie before, one analyst told me they were more laid back than BBs, and she was surprised at my work hours in other banks.

I am not sure where some of you are getting your information but an IBD analyst at Macquarie easily puts in a 90+ hour week. Most groups have had trouble hiring after a couple of years of embarrasing pay which has created an understaffed and overworked situation.
