Macquarie LA vs MUFG Project Finance LA vs Lincoln LA

Sophomore at west coast target trying to decide between the 3 offers. Not sure which to take. Interest in being career banker but also interested in PE. Think my goal would be to recruit FT for a better EB/BB/MM (only in LA) so wondering which bank gives me the best shot to do so. Would stay at one if someone dropped some profound crazy insights tho.

If this is for a sophomore internship, I feel like MUFG PF is not a bad choice here

I'm personally more interested in PF than gaming by a lot bc it has exposure to renewables HOWEVER everyone seems to shit on MUFG, which sort of says something.

are there any of those types of funds in LA? Could I lateral to a BB/EB from PF? I feel like Lincoln would give me a solid shot to do so but idk about MUFG since it’s not M&A work

I've interviewed/networked at MCQ/MUFG at some point in my career. Strictly my opinion so take it with a grain of salt:

  • MUFG Project Finance is pretty niche, but sounds like they're the top at what they do the last time I checked (#1 Team North America Power, both advisory and financing). The culture and the work all sounded very interesting and hands-on to me, and its been some time but comp was at market (or at least comfortable/reasonably proportionate with hours). I would figure exit opps are mainly other structured finance, power funds, etc. With that said if you're not interested in the work nor the industry then may not be the right fit for you.
  • I also have a lot of respect for MCQ LA. The people there sound very bright and the juniors crank out work. They sound like a place that prioritizes work output over thinking outside the box, at least a the junior level. It sounds like a great place to learn and cut your teeth in the industry if you're ready to dig in.

For your goals, I think MCQ or Lincoln would be best.

Good luck!

Thank you! that might be the move for me then, like I said my main goal is to lateral FT to a better bank so I reckon I’ll go with the M&A focused roles
