Anyone know anything about energy and infra? Heard that's their strongest group

They were supposed to tell us last week and had the audacity to postpone again. During reviews I was told I was on track for an offer. Now I'm 4 weeks behind on FT recruiting and am feeling extremely discouraged

Not only for everyone with not giving most a return offer but taking their good old time. Culture my foot how about lies and hypocrisy for culture I bet they don’t tell you that during the seminars. Imagine taking the full summer + 4 weeks for this, at that point wrap up shop back to Australia. Is honesty and transparency too much to ask for?

Honestly, they're the type of company to tell you positive shit the entire time you're there so you can keep grinding it out and doing the work for them, and even during your reviews they tell you like to keep up the good work you've been doing so you really believe that you're doing the right thing only to not give you an offer in the end because that's really how worthless you are to them. Everyone in HR should be fired for power tripping all over the interns and all the MDs and workers that think it's okay to keep fooling all their interns like this and telling them like "can't wait to see you in the office next year" need to die

Like that guy said above "culture" there's no culture at Macquarie except a lying ass culture to maintain a front that they're an amazing company to work for but once you're actually in you realize it's a total shitshow that's totally dog eat dog

I hear ya. If they were truly good people, they (and any firm that knew mid-summer that a lot of interns wouldn't be asked back) should have told interns mid-summer, "Look, you're doing a good job and there's a good chance we want you back, but quite frankly, there's no guarantees, as we don't know our needs yet and there's a lot of uncertainty out there... so if you want to start exploring other FT options, we would understand. Again, we hope to have you back, but we just want to be honest with you and give you a chance to explore other options in what we know will be a challenging environment." I mean, is saying something like that really that freaking hard? Would work two ways -- would separate some of the more committed interns from some of the ones that would be more willing to jump ship, and would let interns start networking in mid-summer with firms that might actually have some headcount for them.

Chill out man, that's basically every bank on the street except maybe a select few like centerview. They dont care abt their employees and will use u and dump u as need be. Better to realize that now than later

I worked at Maquarie full-time, and I can echo what the interns are saying here except I experienced it on a more extended period. Do not get me wrong, there are a lot of good ppl on the floor, but senior management is trash. They push this "unity, we care about our employees" motto but gladly will backstab anyone whether it was a 200 person lay-off in November or screwing over interns. The senior management is the most artificial group of executives on Wall Street, and they are not even that good at their jobs, they just are suck-ups who stayed at the same company for 20+ years.  And what is even more mind-boggling is that HR thinks they are doing god's work and act stuffy when they just take menial commands.

Most of the ppl there from Analysts to Directors are good ppl or at least what you would except from any other investment bank. But the senior management are a bunch of artificial robots, so dont worry about it, life moves on, you dont need to work at Macquarie.

Can I ask what type of group you were in? IEG or something else?

Some observations as a prospect trying hard to get into IEG and these are anecdotes since again I don't work here

 1. Got my lowest cold email non target repsonses, seems like there's not as strong a networking culture? got plenty of responses at BBs

2. HR does seem to be elitist in only letting kids from certain schools apply to informational diversity programs

Another group, and I am not sure about the networking culture thing. I did not notice that  and might just be bad luck for you. And I was not involved or had any knowledge of how recruiting works, but as I said before, senior management pushes a lot of the bs "oh we are so progressive and forward thinking because we do diversity recruiting" when in reality they are just trying to create an artificial image of the firm.
