Market facing roles

Currently in corp banking doing a ton of underwriting and sales work for high yield companies, mix of private and public. Dont really enjoy being disconnected from markets on a day to day basis looking to go to a more market facing role. Any ideas where I should look? Not interested in private equity nor ib so thats why i went to corp banking for wlb

did a private bank internship when in college and enjoyed it, should i just try to go back?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some suggestions for transitioning to a more market-facing role given your background in corporate banking and your interest in staying connected to the markets:

  1. Asset Management:

    • Asset management roles often involve market analysis, portfolio management, and client interaction. Given your experience with high-yield companies, you could leverage your underwriting and sales skills in this field.
  2. Equity Research:

    • Equity research analysts are deeply involved in market analysis and provide insights on public companies. This role would keep you connected to the markets on a daily basis.
  3. Sales and Trading:

    • Sales and trading roles are highly market-facing and involve real-time market activities. Your sales experience in corporate banking could be beneficial here.
  4. Wealth Management:

    • Since you enjoyed your private bank internship, returning to wealth management could be a good fit. This role involves managing investments for high-net-worth clients and staying updated on market trends.
  5. Corporate Treasury:

    • Corporate treasury roles involve managing a company's liquidity, investments, and risk related to financial activities. This can be a market-facing role depending on the company's structure.
  6. Institutional Investment Sales:

    • As suggested in the WSO content, focusing on an institutional investment sales or debt/equity team at firms like JLL, CBRE, C&W, or Newmark could be a good move. These roles involve significant market interaction and client engagement.

Given your current experience and interests, these roles could provide the market-facing exposure you're looking for while utilizing your existing skills.
