Masters in finance thoughts Uk edition

hello everyone this is my first post on this app and I am in need for some advice, I am currently finishing up my bachelors degree in economics at a top university in europe (its not a business school just one of the best public universities that emphasize more on research and academia) my experience has been decent and through the years i have built a decent resume which I can talk about confidently in an interview my goal is to work and live in london so after finishing my undergrad this year I am planning to apply for a masters in finance/financial economics at some universities in the UK now my grades are decent however getting accepted into a top program like LSE,IMPERIAL etc is doable but my problem is the high cost of living in london and the high tuition fees even if i do get a scholarship its still very expensive, so I opted for applying to good russel group universities which are: - University of Sheffield - university of Birmingham -university of Exeter -university of Newcastle - University of Leeds - University of Manchester the goal is definitely to go for a summer internship and them hopefully convert it into a full time offer the main divisions I am interested in are IB , CB and asset management also i looked into management consulting which also can be a decent gig now i am realistic and i know securing the best internship at the best banks is really hard but worth a shot i just wanted to know from people who have some experience in the UK and london specifically of what are my chances in securing a role i am not only aiming for the best banks i’m open to everything since u have to start somewhere and then u can work your way up. I have a decent resume with decent experience, can speak 3 languages arabic, german and english and have the patience and will power to push hard to secure something. Any advice on what program to choose and ways to increase my chances are hugely appreciated. Cheers!

Firstly, please learn how to use a full stop, Jesus Christ.

Secondly, even at undergrad, most of those unis send minimal amounts of students to front office. Definitely gets worse at postgrad. Not really sure how you dropped from LSE and Imperial to this tier of uni? There's a reason these unis cost more than the ones you listed - the opportunity set after you graduate is not even in the same league. If it was the London CoL that was an issue, why not consider unis like Oxford, Cambridge, even Warwick? I'd advise you to reconsider this decision if you're serious about doing well.

Just to add, I’d look at continental Europe at this point because adjusting for cost and quality of institution, you’re getting more bang for your buck. Just something to think about.

Just adding my two cents here.

Was in a very similar boat, had offers from UK tier 1 target unis but decided against it because of the high tuition fees. I now work in London IBD at a BB so it is also possible without spending insane amounts of money.

Regarding the unis you listed, I wholeheartedly agree with the first post - this won’t get you anywhere. Tuition fees are still fairly high and you will get 0 looks from headhunters.

My suggestion would be to look at European target schools. Some schools that place many people in London and have low tuition fees are St Gallen and Stockholm school of economics (if you are EU National, this one is actually free). Some German schools also have decent placements. Portugal might also fall into this category but not entirely sure. This is easy to find out via a LinkedIn search!

Having said that, the one disadvantage you will face is that you’ll need a visa sponsor - which in some cases might be deciding factor between you and a local UK candidate.

TLDR: it’s also possible from outside the uk. Your list of unis won’t help your goal.
