MBA --> Oil & Gas IB

Do you need to be a former engineer or have a background in Oil & Gas in order to break into Energy/Oil & Gas IB in Houston?

I will be attending an MBA program this Fall, and I'm considering recruiting for O&G IB in Houston because I want to move back there long-term to be closer to family and friends, however, I'm worried that my lack of relevant experience (I have a Tech/IT background pre-MBA) will make me considerably less attractive to the banks in Houston compared to the other MBA candidates that are former engineers.

Ex petroleum engineers get a leg up, but people of any decent general background can break in with the right mba (ut and rice place most, m7, some other southern schools like vanderbilt, fuqua), good gpa, solid on-cycle networking, good finance grade in mba

But to be clear, there aren’t nearly enoughsolid and willing ex pet engineers to fill the ~40-50 good Houston spots
