MBA planning

As of now I am a sophomore at a non target. I want to do IB but I think that corporate finance at F500 is more realistic since I already have a internship at F500 for summer.

That being said, I ultimately want to do IB. Let's say that I graduate with 3.8+ GPA and 750+ GMAT and work at F500 for 2 years then would that make me a good candidate at top 5 MBA programs? I guess what exactly do these schools look for (Wharton, HBS, Stanford, Booth, Kellogs, Columbia etc.)

Also after finishing my MBA from top school would it be possible to break at bulge bracket/buy side as an associate?

Relax man. Enjoy your undergrad and don't expect to finish in the top 2% on the GMAT. You may do so, but given your post, don't get your hopes up on it. You could get into a solid MBA program with less than 750.

  1. How realistic are the GPA/GMAT assumptions? What are you basing the GMAT score on? What's your GPA now?
  2. Most people admitted to the programs you mentioned have about 4 years of experience.

To get into those programs it takes a lot more than stats, especially coming from a non-target. Tons of information about it, but basically, in addition to a great GPA and great GMAT, you'll need:

-Awesome work experience. If you go F500 route you will need to show significant progression, either through additional responsibility, promotions, or people placed under you for management -Strong extracurriculars. Both while you're in school and staying involved in the community after you graduate. Especially if you're in F500 working less than 50 or 60 hours a week, you'll need to explain what you're doing with the other 128 hours a week you're not working -More than 2 years of work experience. More like 4 years of work experience. 2 is definitely possible, but it tends to go to the people that have VERY good work experience for those 2 years -A good story (and the ability to convey it) on why you've made the decisions in your life that you have up until now. Why nontarget, why F500, and why do you want an MBA from ________

You should look into HBS 2+2 program, it's a program you apply to in your junior or senior year of college, and if accepted you basically get a spot at HBS starting 2 years after you graduate and you use those 2 years to gain some work experience.

I would also pick up "How to Get into the TOP MBA Programs" by Richard Montauk
