Mentioning HNI acquaintances in IB interview
Is it a good idea to mention in an IB or capital markets interview (be it hirevue/pre-recorded or in-person) that you have a lot of friends who are relatives of billionaires or high net-worth individuals and that you could leverage such connections into potentially bringing in deals and future revenue for the bank in future (especially if it's an internship interview)?
No
.
Wtf is up with the influx of entitled prospects thinking that their daddy’s friends will make them an IB superstar from day 1?
you are not bringing business to the firm. This will backfire and people will instantly lose respect for you if you think you’re hot sh*t because you know some people with money (newsflash: so does almost everyone in finance)
Just do your job, and do it well. Business development is not an analyst responsibility.
If you’re like half of the IB prospects on these boards you’ll be posting in 6 months about how hard it is and how you want to quit anyhow…
Informative
No, you will not bring in deals as an intern/analyst. Most of us have connections to high net worth individuals, it’s not special. Would do more research on the difference between roles, An/Aso/VP/MD.
Knowing a successful person doesn't automatically make you a successful person. This is lame af

Oh Yes absolutely. They’ll probably hire you on the spot as an MD.
Works better with a boutique
No that is literally an auto-ding
Also unless your UHNW acquaintances run a PE fund or are Elon Musk, irrelevant to IB. It's not like most wealthy individuals are doing personal M&A of any kind.
Keep your connections to yourself and use them on a personal level to build your network
