Mid/Shit tier bank exit opps?

Hey guys was hoping for some input. I'm a 2nd year analyst trying to figure out how best to leverage my IB stint into a cool exit opportunity. I tried a few PE interviews, but being a very average candidate all around I didn’t pull any offers. I'm looking for an industry where IB experience in general matters more than what prestige bank I worked at. What have you guys seen others do? Although I know I could always just lateral to BB/EB like some of my peers have, I'm definitely looking to exit, just not sure where to look

I cover energy, both traditional O&G and Renewables. Lots of ECM and DCM type work, little to no m&a experience. I find the work decently stimulating, but I cant stand the hours (9am-1am-ish). I think if I could find a place that values IPO experience i'd be able to knock an interview like that out of the park. I was thinking either endowments of or a clean energy startup, but really in a "searching" mode right now.

How do you work on both ECM and DCM? Has to be like a BNP level bank?

An endowment would be a great option where the IB experience in general is valued. Great hours & pay and really interesting place in the investing ecosystem. The issue would be finding an endowment with an opening. The turnover tends to be lower.

Hi OP I echo with a lot of your situation. No you don't want to go into an infra fund.

May I ask what do you mean when you say startup? Size, sector, etc. I also do a lot of IPOs and close to nil M&A experience. I have done some project finance (very similar to LBO). Mid/shit tier bank too.
