Military Service?
Ok, I'm early on in college, and am still deciding whether or not to join the military. It has been my life-long dream to fly, and if i get an ROTC scholarship and fly after college, I will owe the military 8-10 years of service. I'm not quite sure what to do, because I am also very interested in I-Banking, but it seems to require alot of work early on, which might only be possible if I'm right out of college. For the record, my entire life I have been a hard-working, successfull, and very well-rounded student and individual. Everything I pursue, I pursue with success in mind, and I don't see myself having much trouble getting into a top B-school. I don't mean to sound snooty, but I'm trying to give you guys an impression of who I am. If i had my choice, I'd serve my time in the military, go to a top B-school, and then get into I-Banking as an associate around age 31. Sound possible? Any suggesstions???? Thanks alot guys. cbk89
Are you sure you want to pursue banking at age 31? Your body might not take the 90+ hour work weeks. If you're married by then with kids that might be a factor to consider. Since you're planning this so far out I would just advise to relax and not really consider it. I mean its so far off in the future that hashing over it now would just be added and unneeded stress.
There are lots of other career tracks in the business world that pay well. Consulting, VC, etc all have salaries in the six figures post-MBA, which is really what you need to live comfortably.

i think with the right attitude you can acheive that. I served the military for 3 years, did college, worked as a programmer for 4 years, and now at 31 am joining Ibanking sales after my masters. Its a tough life starting at 31 but still can do.
31 sounds like a pretty normal age for an associate. If you look at a lot of recent top5 grads many have years of experience (there was a pdf with tons of WHarton resumes floating around) and many come from the military. I'd go with the army, more life experience and you'll still just as likely to end up in the same place.
