MIT and M&T for IB career

Hey guys, I’m currently narrowing down my college list and MIT is on my radar. How realistic is it to break into IB from MIT undergrad?

Specifically, I’m looking for insights on being an international student who will eventually need to transition from an F-1 (STEM OPT) to an H-1B. I’m aware of the sponsorship hurdles and the extra costs for the firm (the ~$10k sponsorship fee vs. a domestic hire).

I’ve also been looking at the M&T program at UPenn. I know Wharton is the "Mecca" of IB, but I haven't heard much specifically about M&T’s placement and how it compares.

Would appreciate any comments or advice on the recruiting prospects for both!

No tf it ain't dawg. "The rest is doable" if that was true, everyone would go to HYPSM. 4% acceptance rate, no matter how good your profile is unless you're a math Olympiad you're not even close to guaranteed a spot

If you plan on going to MIT just to do IB, you’re prolly not getting into MIT lol

MIT does place into IB, but it’s usually less structured than Wharton and relies more on networking and individual effort. For international students, visa sponsorship is a hurdle but not a dealbreaker at BBs and EBs that already sponsor.

M&T is smaller, but the combination of Wharton access and engineering rigor is attractive to certain groups (especially tech/industrials). If IB is the only goal, Wharton is the most direct path — but both MIT and M&T offer strong optionality if plans change.
