Moelis LA in 2021

Been seeing a few threads about Moelis LA on WSO lately and opinions are either (1) Moelis LA is an elite group, or (2) their exits aren’t as great anymore. What do y’all think about MoCo LA in 2021?

Networked with them for SA 22. Small data point but one analyst hadn't had a weekend off for 8 weeks and the other analyst was really enjoying the conversation because it sounded like he hadn't been able to talk to anyone else for days.

Moelis LA is still a great shop, one of the best in terms of the west coast and definitely the best shop in LA.

I would agree that exits have not been as great as they used to be but that's because almost all of the 5-7 analysts used to exit to MF/UMM PE, now I would say 1-2 go to MF PE and another 2-3 go to UMM while the rest are exiting finance or want to do something else. This is because they have had to expand their analyst pool and also have probably lost in talent wars to PE analyst programs. Still a great place to be and you will get worked very hard, and again when you're at somewhere like Moelis LA, its more about the individual analyst than the group/firm as you would probably get interviews wherever.

LA Banker here with a lot of friends at Moelis. Moelis LA is still the best office in LA and an elite office by all measures. Deal flow is still top notch, hours are still long, exits are still great, and the culture is very tight-knit. That being said, the LA office isn't as MF-heavy as before, and I think that's due to a lot of self-selection. I feel like over the past few years the culture among analysts is a lot less "hardo-heavy", which has resulted in a lot less interest towards MF (personally know 2 analysts there that didn't even recruit for MF this cycle because of lifestyle reasons), and has also resulted in the culture and hours in the office softening a bit from the office's historical sweaty reputation.
