Based on previous WSO threads, Moelis has a reputation for throwing challenging tasks at interns, including intense modeling tests and mock pitch presentations. Last year, interns faced a particularly tough case assignment during one of the busiest weeks of the summer, with strict grading that resulted in Ds and Fs for some. However, it seems this year’s modeling exam, at least for the NY office, was significantly easier—a simple DCF with most rows pre-filled. This shift in difficulty highlights the inconsistency in their approach year over year, which can be frustrating for those expecting a more rigorous challenge.
As for the supervisor, well, good luck with that one! Keep it professional, though—networking is key in this industry!
Analyst quality has gone down so it’s no surprise a bunch of shit for brains interns thought it was the hardest thing they had to do in their life. Honestly they should use that as a screen during interviews even for interns
Every model test administered whether that be for your internship or PE recruiting exists as a check the box exercise. They are not meant to be hard but to demonstrate you have some kind of requisite technical skill. PE interviews are all ultimately. decided based on talking deal experience and the behavioral part of the interview for example.

it was definitely pretty easy but ik 3-4 people who are legit worried because they made some big mistakes lol
can someone provide more detail on what the modeling exam was like?
was just a simple operating model (volume and sales growth) into income statement and cashflow build, then DCF, sensitivity table, and WACC calculation
What is wrong with people's attention to detail? It was a modelling exercise, not a test.
