Morgan Stanley hiring primarily greek life?

Is morgan stanley a fratty bank and how does the alumni recruitment channel work for Morgan Stanley? I see so many people getting offers especially with girls in greek life who have 0 - 1 non finance internship and they're landing IB offers? Curious on this trend.

At my school, they pretty much just hire the Greenwich/CT rich party-type women/men.

Very rare have I seen a grinder-type person get MS at my school (Other Schools may be different)

It's not just MS. Banking in general is pretty fratty - finance is a common major among Greek life folk, and the current greek life students are more likely to know the more junior alums at each bank. Also a bit of resource pooling, you'll know a lot more about IB and how to land it if everyone the year about you is talking about it and encouraging you to go to info sessions.

Plenty of non-greek life people land just fine, frats/srats are just a population where wealthy, well-connected people tend to gather

Did you have relevant experience going in? I think OP is talking about the people getting offers that don't have any directly relevant internship in the industry

because the ppl getting offers rn are diversity they don't have experiene

The system is broken - is there another explanation?

Let’s shift this conversation away from your idea of “diversity”. Diversity is only used when appropriate for management’s own appetite and at their discretion. Through times like this trying one, diversity is no longer a focus and many hardworking individuals who championed diversity movements or networks have started to leave the firm - I’m not talking about analysts, I’m talking about MDs (aware since I was previously in MS).

Truth is, a lot of IBD MDs in the firm are really sick and tired of how HR is only recruiting from target schools and they are stuck in their ways. As how he put it, “HR is f***ng lazy”. HR slacks and basically puts the ‘power’ of recruiting into the hands of analysts that have barely hit their desks - who do not know how to contribute to a deal team or the firm.

Campus recruitment for MS IBD is led by a team of uncultured swines who only have elitism written all over. They realize they have the power to rule over students who are begging for the job. But when they realize that you have potential, they’ll make sure you do not get in the doors.

I am also not even sure how some VPs or Associates got there, most of them through connections - and not done through their own hard work - it’s connections that their parents built and they leveraged shamelessly. Some of them… I dug deep into their backgrounds and realize that rude individuals who succeed often had their father make them a connection. Worst of all, some of them take advantage of their ‘minority’ status in banking - but hold on - it’s often not the race or sexual orientation card - it is often WHITE women who flaunt that around like they’re the boss because they’re “underrepresented” and feel “oppressed by the men” so they act out.

Prepared for shit to be thrown, but here is some insight and feedback from someone who left the industry
