Most notable IBD banks operating in LA?
I know many banks have offices in Los Angeles but am unsure which ones actually have a comprehensive IBD team stationed there instead of just asset and wealth management and the like. What groups do they focus on? Thanks.
Credit Suisse, pretty sure FSG & LevFin
Just got an email from their LA office for 2020 recruiting. The flyer said financial sponsors and real estate gaming and lodging are the two group with deal exp including Caesars and Dell EMC.
Moelis & Company: Consumer Retail, Entertainment Houlihan Lokey: Restructuring
Lazard: M&A Houlihan Lokey: Restructuring Moelis & Co: Consumer
Lazard has M&A in Los Angeles? I was under the impression it was just A&D. Is it A&D focused M&A?
Yes, it’s A&D M&A
Lazard LA is A&D M&A and RX
There are a bunch of old threads on this if you haven't seen those already.
And most of them are outdated. Offices have been moved around quite a bit since 2016-17.
Yeah they are from 2013 or so, just wanted to see if there have been any significant changes in recent years.
The most notable groups seem to be Moelis, Lazard (I think they do mostly aerospace and defense), HL (Rx), MS (M&A), and CS (LevFin). GS and CVP have offices, however, I haven't heard too much about them.
In terms of (fairly) recent developments: - J.P. Morgan has been expanding their office recently (regional coverage and M&A) - PWP opened up an office in the last couple of years. They poaching some people from BAML. I believe it's an industrials group. - RBC very recently opened a media & entertainment group. They poached some people from Moelis LA.
The above posts seem accurate regarding the LA market. Generally speaking - Moelis, CS, MS, Barclays, and Houlihan (Rx) have very strong LA offices.
@Synergy_or_Syzygy posted a very accurate assessment of the LA landscape in December:
"Generalist groups * Moelis - large office pseudo-HQ, exposure to lots of different things, Moelis rep (take as you will) * Morgan Stanley - mixture of a lot of things, Gaming, Consumer, M&A, etc. * BAML - kind of like MS but a more tight-knit office Financial Sponsors + Coverage banks * Barclays - FSG + Consumer * Credit Suisse - FSG + Gaming/Lodging Focused groups * Houlihan - HQ office, will be in a specific corporate finance group e.g. aerospace and defense, healthcare, etc. * Citi - metals and mining global HQ, smaller office"
Yes and I would add JPM and PWP. I heard anecdotally that RBC LA has already blown up...
What do you mean by blown up?
Also, GS LA has West Region Advisory which focuses on media & entertainment and consumer retail, and Centerview Partners does mainly media I believe.
Thank you all so much for your help!
.
bump
Alittle off topic, but im curious how easy is it to lateral from a NYC MM to one of these groups in LA?
curious to know this too.
