MS NYC Generalist Program Group Rankings & Placement Process

Got my offer to Morgan Stanley's 2027 IBD Generalist program in NY. Wanted to hear from those who have gone through the placement process recently, since most of the information on here about the groups is outdated (5yr+). Also feel it could be helpful for those wanting to recruit MS NY. From my understanding there are 9 groups that you can place into through the generalist program:

Consumer & Retail, Financial Sponsors, Global Power & Energy (formerly GPUG), Healthcare, Industrials, M&A, Media & Communications, Technology, Transportation

From what I know M&C and GPE model in-house while other coverage groups pass execution to M&A — how accurate is that, and where do other groups (especially Industrials) actually fall? Also curious how exits look out of Industrials and GPE specifically.

For the placement process — is it recommended to network beforehand? Have had people say that it would be good to network before the process starts, also heard that it is discouraged and we should just use the allocated time come the process. The process starts in February, and was considering reaching out to some people this month.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
