Hi, I would appreciate it if anyone who has successfully made the transition from munis to corporate ib share any insights or advice on how to make the switch. Looking to make a switch to traditional IB after graduation so any advice is welcome.

I made the switch and I think there are a few main issues you have to network past.
1. Why do you want to leave Pubfin?
2. What experience do you have that makes switching to a coverage group worthwhile?
The answer for 1 is easy , as you can say that pubfin although interesting you want to advise clients along the entire capital spectrum and advise on Strategy behind M&A - from either the buy or sell side.
for number 2 you need to find some way to spin your experience to show why you are qualified to make the jump.
Did you switch to a coverage group similar to verticals you covered in Pubfin or was it a complete 180?
I went MM Pubfin (covered a subsector of REV bonds at my bank) to BB TMT
Did you make the switch as an analyst or after a summer internship in Public Finance? Are there any areas in corporate IB where public finance experience would be somewhat valued?
I made the switch at the 1 year mark.
and maybe a project/utility finance. If that doesn't interest you though don't go for it.
Do you have any tips as to how to tailor public finance experience on a resume? Any specific things to mention?
Rev bonds are easier to talk to as you can take a corporate spin on them. Otherwise just talk to the any MA work you did.
