Mutual Fund vs. Restructuring??
Hey,
I'm wondering what the pros and cons would be of an equity research job at a mutual fund (think Wellington, Fidelity) vs. a job in restructuring at a top shop (think Lazard, Blackstone). I think I probably want to be a value investor, perhaps eventually start my own fund (at least I dream right?)
I realize they might be difficult to compare, but any thoughts?
Thanks
are you insane? do restructuring. that's as prestigious as M&A, and the skillset is far superior.
what do you see as the skillset of each area?
Who cares about prestige - and I'd argue that working at Wellington or Fidelity is pretty prestigious. I can't speak to the restructuring but I think working at a fund is a great opportunity, with hours much, much better than banking. Do what you want to do though - think about what each job will entail and make a decision based on that.
