National Investment Banking Competition & Conference
Have seen one or two threads about NIBC in the past, but can anybody attest to this competition actually helping them in some way?

Career Resources
Saw it on the WSO instagram and also interested. Anyone have experience competing?
Competed and reached global finals earlier this year.
Worth it. Got a company with a live deal that was actually happening side by side. Great learning experience.
if you make it to the finals, you get to network with PE and IB people from NYC and some regional offices, including great firms.
The final day case is generally very rushed, but you learn a lot and meet a lot of people.
If you win or are top 3 I think, you get interviews the day of. And there is a night event for everyone where you go to a club in a limo and party till 3-4 in the morning too lol (legal age to drink is 18 in Canada).
Even if you don’t win, make it to the finals and enjoy the experience.
10/10 recommend
Ya my friend went last year. Heard they had a party at some banker’s pent house too. Sounded like a great time
Yeah, but that was the night after the official event ended.
And I had to get back so I didn’t attend that.
Even for a super non target school student? Do you think that would help
If you are a super non target, you need to show up, and put your name and face in front of as many people as possible.
Be knowledgeable, respectful, and charming. If people like you, that is how you get interviews.
If you think you can’t because of some reason be it your school or your major or whatever, you never will be able to. But if you keep showing up and doing your part, something will land.
Just prepare as much as possible. Use every free time you have to model, read finance news, form theses, and learn technicals.
Luck is preparedness meeting opportunity. And just one person needs to pick you for it to work.
18 in Alberta
19 in almost everywhere else including BC where the event is held
Thank for that. My bad.
Apparently it is QC, Manitoba, and Alberta where it is 18 and 19 elsewhere. I don't personally drink and my majority of time spent in Canada has been Montreal so just keep hearing 18.
anyone hear back yet?
I got an email at 4am saying they’d release results within 48hrs
Overall, the event was sloppy and not well executed. We strongly believe that this is not worth going to…
My team attended the finals this year. Here is our feedback.
1. Cost of first round is 160USD/team The cost to attend the finals is 390USD/person. This covers food for 2 days and hotel for 2 days. Food was not substantial (1 Sandwhich at each meal, nothing to accompany). The rooms were small and were cramed with 4 people. The price does not justify the experience.
2. Few mid-level and senior professionals. If your goal is to make connections in this case comp or to find employment opportunities. You will be disappointed. Additionally, the people judging some of the groups were university students.
3. Low professionalism from the NIBC committee. A. The NIBC members never seemed to know what was going on. B. The case was released 34 minutes late because committee member slept in. C. They sent us contradicting emails, recycled from previous years. D. The price for the finals was 100USD more than what was marketed in the previous mail.
4. NIBC invested money into silly things. These include; ice statue, 10-minute limo ride, bottles of alcohol (only for the NIBC team).
We are describing only some of the elements that stood out to our team. Overall, there were many sloppy and unprofessional elements of this competition. For those thinking of going, we would not recommend.
You would be better off attending an alternative case competition.
