Assume your spot is taken by a white woman, DEI Becky.

She is pursuing gender studies at Dartmouth and HR at GS feels her leadership experience from on-campus protests will be a valuable addition.

3.7 gpa at h/y/w, straight white male, have gotten multiple r1’s + offers off cold apps. Stop complaining and reflect. If you’re getting 1-2 calls, why arent those converting into r1’s?

1-2 calls a firm isn’t enough lol. You know how many Harvard / Wharton kids with near perfect GPAs, that are in every club and interned at a mm pe firm we get. You really have to stand out in intro calls or know the right people.

Honestly at this point we get so many people from Wharton / Harvard its just so.. standard. I don't know I don't see the difference at this point in terms of quality from an Analyst from IU (IBW ofc we have standards) vs a Analyst from Wharton.

Step it up and play the game like the rest of the kids. You're not competing against frat bro from bama, you're competing against everyone.

is there any meaningful difference between cornell/umich vs. wharton/harvard atp

Bud ib lost all its prestige. We used to drop resumes off at the career center and voila interview.

Do you want to be surrounded by a San Diego state or university of South Carolina grad?

May I suggest diplomacy foreign affairs or big law?

People are shitting on how this is a boring profile but what more could he do? What’s he missing that would lead to interviews (not sure where since most apps opened mere days ago though)

yeah it's BS you can grind your way into a target school, grind your way into a top club and a 4.0 gpa and they won't even have a convo with you. Clubs are competitive too so I doubt he's socially incompetent. feel for him unless he's a total boner and completely unaware about it

Know a few guys at wharton that ended up at a tier d firm but they were all very chill and technically sharp. Recruiting is just fucked and skewed unfavorably against certain demographics

I’m curious what those Wharton guys did wrong to end up at a tier D firm. I know some very successful Wharton guys so clearly it’s very much within reach so what did they do wrong

Not saying this is you, but just to be sure, have you gotten feedback from others on how you handle coffee/informational chats?

I ask this bc people at my company have had chats with candidates before that looked good on paper (Ivy League, good gpa, good ECs, friendly in emails) but were absolutely awkward in person or in call. One candidate was disqualified from the interview invite even though his stats were perfect bc 3 different people he chatted with told the recruiter he was uncomfortably awkward and physically didn’t look polished.

I genuinely don’t think anyone has given him that feedback to his face because he seems to lack awareness, and he wasnt rude or unpleasant either. Just fumbled a lot in his speaking and awkward.
