Need Advice for EB/BB Recruiting and Starting Early (8th Grade)

Hey WSO community,

I’m currently in 8th grade and starting to think about how to position myself for a successful career in IB. Right now, I’m working on building my skill set by self-studying EBIDA's and DCF's.

I know networking is important. I’m a bit younger so would it be better to start with cold calling Associates/VPs or an MD first? Also, any advice on staying in my non-target middle school or lateraling from middle school into a target high school?

Stay in non-target middle school (0 offers) or lateral to a target high school (2 alum in BB/EB)

It'll definitely be an uphill battle from your non-target middle school - would definitely see if you can transfer! Summer 2032 recruiting is right around the corner.

Hate to be that guy, but you are already a bit late to the game. Recruiting nowadays pretty much starts in 7th grade, when you begin developing meaningful relationships with VPs and above, so when you enroll in college, they are promoted to MDs who can push for you with more influence. Luckily, it's not the end of the world if you can manage to get into one of the target high schools (think Exeter/Deerfield/Lawrenceville) which the alumni network is pretty strong. For internships, be ready to have at least 10 before applying for your Summer Analyst role which I assume will kick off with your college acceptance. You can start by applying to some adjacent roles at like Sweetgreen or Chipotle for their Corporate Strategic Transaction internship program that you gain hands on experience of the very basic of 'transactional work' of turning wraps and receiving proper fees from regular clients (both cash and credit transactions). Good luck!
