Need advice for transferring

Hi all,

Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I am trying to figure out what decision makes the most sense. I am currently a second semester junior at a non-target school in NYC (think Pace, Fordham, Baruch) with a 3.9+ GPA, decent ECs and other experiences. I am deeply committed to getting into IBD -> PE. A little bit more background is that I started college around 5-6 years ago and did very poorly at my first college. I did so bad that I ended up getting dismissed and screwed around for a few years. I recently transferred to my new school in NYC and now am a straight A student. I also networked my ass off and have received a summer analyst position at a top EB (think Moelis, Lazard, Evercore) with the hope that I get a return offer.

My question is that it has come to my attention that I could transfer to a much better university (ivy-league or other top tier colleges) with a reasonable chance at getting in. Would it make sense for me to transfer if it meant delaying graduation one more year? Will a better brand name help me get into good MBA programs and make me a more competitive applicant for PE/IBD?

Pros are that I would have a much better college brand name, potentially another summer analyst position. Cons are that I would delay graduation one more year and could possibly end up rejected a return offer if things go well at the summer analyst position.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

If you're a junior you have too many credits to transfer. No top school (or almost any school) will accept an application from you.

Ex. see here (https://college.harvard.edu/frequently-asked-questions/transfer-admissi…) - "Students may apply to enter as a sophomore or junior student."

https://www.brown.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/transfer-applicants -

"Brown admits transfers who will begin their time at The College as first-semester sophomores, second-semester sophomores, and first-semester juniors."

And anyway what makes you think you would have a reasonable chance of getting in? Harvard doesn't care about your IB internship and their transfer admission rate is like 2%...

You can't just "restart" as a sophomore or junior if you have already 60-90 credits. That just wouldn't make sense. And he probably has even more cause he started over
