Need to start working out more. How to push back on Associates who don't get it?
So I am just curious if you all have any strategies on how to push back on associates that more or less Scoff at the idea of analyst taking time to workout. I know that analyst are suppose to grind, but I have an associate that just keeps making everything urgent and its really starting to affect my health. Also I know he is not the kind of person to workout, so he kind of just expects the same.
Is there any good strategies to push back here, and get 45mins -1hr a night to work out?
Try and get one in during the week, hit two big sessions on the weekend.
I generally am able to do that. And maybe I just have unrealistic expectations but, I really just want one or two more during the week.
Easiest targets are one Friday evening immediately post-work, one Saturday, and one Sunday. You can also work some sessions in during the week if you're WFH that day, just block your calendar for 1-1.5 hours in the evening somewhere in the 6-9pm range and let them know you'll be out of pocket.
I get that you're asking how to effectively push-back on associate's unreasonable demands, not how to "squeeze in" a workout. I don't have experience doing this, but hopefully some forthcoming comments will give you some ideas.
Send them an email saying "Hey xx, I'm going to the gym for an hour. I'll be back online at 7. Call if anything urgent comes up."
If they complain, just ask them if they'd have a prefer time for you to be out and and forward your email to the staffer and ask for guidance on how to manage. It's completely reasonable to be out for an extra hour, but have the attitude that you'll make it up once you're back.
If you find yourself taking 30 minutes 3x a day to get coffee, you're out another 30 to pickup up lunch and dinner, another hour to commute home and an hour of gym on top of it and then email at midnight saying it's getting late so you're going to call it a night and will pick things back up in the morning, that's where it becomes an issue.
Easiest way (though perhaps not ideal) is to go to the gym in the morning. If working out truly is a priority for you you can probably wake up early 1-2 times during the weekday to hit the gym
