Networking: Bankers, how many cold emails do you get from students?

How many cold emails do you get per week, how many do you read, and how many do you actually take action on?

What makes you more likely to coffee chat a student who sends a cold email? Curious to know if you'd be more willing to take coffee chats from students if they've been validated by a trusted source. What kind of students are you most happy and excited to talk to (are they of a certain caliber)? Or maybe you don't have time at all?

Cold emails are very rare (if you meant to work email). But always get tons of linked in requests and messages there. I always pool them up and whenever I have 10 minutes on a toilet break on a weekend I just message them all a reply instead of ignoring them all. Almost never grab coffee due to time constraints but always help over a call if they are keen and persuasive. The only reason is, I was that student many many years ago and I remember the people who helped me out to this day. When u are a student, it means a lot.

Also if a student is taking the time and effort to approach and network, you have to appreciate the hustle. That’s my view.

this is rlly nice of you, man. sincere thank you on behalf of all prospects

Yep, agree with this, I think the only time I have told students I can't take a call is when they are making it impossible to schedule one.

I remember onetime I offered to have a call at like 6:30 pm and the student said they had a club meeting, I gave up after that as we had take a week and about 10 emails to find a time. I also don't respond to connections without a message.

2-3 linkedin a week, currently, kids are starting early.

I give everyone a chance for a 15-min call, but you can tell within 5 minutes who actually wants the job, and who is just doing it because their friends are.

Just make sure you actually understand what the job involves, not generic questions like 'what do you do on your job' (literally...)
