Networking for NYC SA26 -- Generalist vs. Group-Specific Programs

Hope everyone's doing well!

I’ve been focusing on networking with people in the coverage and product groups I’m interested in, but I know a lot of NYC firms run generalist summer analyst programs. Just wondering—does it actually matter who you reach out to in that case?

Also, does anyone have a sense of which firms run generalist SA programs versus group-specific ones? I’ve heard most NYC banks are generalist, but would love some confirmation and tips on how to approach networking for this. Appreciate any advice!
