Networking with MD

Hey all, I am currently in the middle of the networking season and would love your advice. I have been fortunate enough to have met a great connect with an MD, I was a freshmen when we met so not too much networking more just keeping in touch. I am hoping to reach out to him for recruiting help at his bank but I am unsure how to network top down as usually i am talking to analyst or associates. If an of you have had experience networking with MDs, what is the typical pathway when networking with them? Should i be focusing on who he can connect me with? Should i be asking him questions? Should it be more like a hey i put my app in? I will preference this all with he specifically told me he would help me in recruiting season so it shouldn’t be too much of a shock lol or i hope not at least. Thank y’all for the input! Have a great night!

Oh p.s my bad for the horrible grammar I am on like -5 hours of sleep

MDs are pretty fun to talk to. Chances are they're gonna do most of the talking. Research their background and ask lots of genuine questions "why did you go from this bank to this bank" "what do you like about this sector". Or even some more personal stuff like "How was it moving from LA to NYC" which can open the door for some pretty interesting conversations. Usually they'll just yap alot about whatever they want. I've heard stories about kids, their failed marriage, etc etc. If the call goes well I'd maybe allude to recruiting like "what are the timelines looking like for bank xyz" and maybe in the thank you email tag on "is there anyone you'd recommend me speaking to to contunue the convo."

Awesome, thank you for this info! What should be the over marching goal would you say with MDs? For me with analyst it’s always been, make sure they know I’m a good coworker to work with, get introduced to others if possible, and learn things about the job I might need for interviews. With MDs do you think it is similar or completely different.
