Networking with Upperclassman - Have I ruined my chances?

I've been setting up coffee chats with some upperclassman that hold exec positions at the finance clubs I want to join. I'm genuinely curious about their experiences and what they did to secure the exec position as well as summer internship positions. I mainly asked the following questions during the coffee chat and they were super helpful. (I was also really grateful for them taking the time to meet w me and sent a follow up msg every time)

  • What are some common mistakes applicants make when applying for finance club positions?
  • How did you first get involved with X club and how did you leverage this experience to get your internship at Y company?
  • How did you get an internship as a first year student? Were you involved in any spring weeks or insight programs?

I mainly asked these questions because one's LinkedIn doesn't tell their full story. I think the questions might've been somewhat cliche, but couldn't find answers online/etc.

Am I fucked for club positions now? Did I appear as a tryhard? At the end of the call they all said something along the lines of "You seem like a bright/hardworking kid, don't worry too much"

Who do I network with and how do I do it more effectively?
