No BS tips for passing HireVues?
Been reflecting on some of my past applications and most of my applications that required a one-way interview (hirevue) led to rejections.
I’ve seen conflicting evidence online - sometimes they’re analysed by AI, sometimes they’re watched by analysts and above, sometimes it’s best not to be staring at the camera the whole time etc.
Can someone who knows about the process please provide any tips/advice in passing these one-way interviews? Would really help out.
Bump
They are watched by real people. I know because I have watched them. I can't say what happens to them before they get to me though.
All the regular and sensible tips you see online are accurate. One usually perhaps less discussed is don't act like a robot, as so many people do, show some emotion and enthusiasm. Move a bit - you know like a real person talking.
The problem with HVs is probably that most people's are actually okay and they're meant to be a big filter... So I'm assuming HR starts either being extremely granular with the feedback (only people with all top marks get through) or refers back to your CV.
Interesting, useful to know! Do you guys typically watch responses to 1-2 questions or the whole thing (say there were 5 or so questions)?
The whole thing... Just like any other interview
Appreciate it. Reason I ask is because some have said they only watch a couple of questions because they "know" if you'd be a good fit off one answer alone
Ah i thought you were implying each interviewer reviews 1 type of question across multiple candidates.
No I've always watched the whole thing, sometimes at 1.5-2x speed. My HR tends to require feedback per Q + a general score. Definitely weight certain qs higher than others but that weighting is gonna depend on your reviewer.
What other guy said below is also pretty accurate tbh for a no BS answer apart from 4) in my experience.
A lot of you guys are F*cking cookie-cutter nerds fr haha! I’ve been through many processes and if you don’t do these steps you are literally working backwards and on top of that competing against everyone else who does
Since you said no BS:
1. Get the questions beforehand from friends or group chats.
2. Perfect an intro for yourself covering why banking, why this firm, and an interesting fact about you. Make sure it flows naturally and doesn’t sound robotic.
3. Have two BS TMAT stories ready. They don’t even have to be true. Half-truths with extra polish always work.
4. Make sure your first and second question answers are perfect. Realistically, recruiters don’t watch the whole video. They make their decision based on the first one. If they’re unsure, they’ll check the second. If you mess up the second after an average first, you’re out.
